The launch of new and improved resource kits - 18 May 2022B.S.G are thrilled to launch the new and exciting Resource Kits that will be made available to those children throughout New Zealand that have sustained burn injuries and will require time spent in hospital.
It has been a wonderful collaboration with various organisations that have contributed to new resources that will enhance the patients stay. Discussions took place between the Play Specialist and Clinical Nurse Specialist from Kidz First establishing items that could improve a child’s burn journey. Children burn survivors throughout New Zealand will be provided with kits containing hygiene items, toys and activities that can act as tools through the rehabilitation phase, contact forms with brochure information for families/whanau raising the awareness of the Burn Support Group, along with an educational activity book and for the very young Pyjama sets offering some comfort. Ages have been considered, kits for 0-2yrs, 2-5yrs, 5yrs onwards. Burns Support Group introduced Hygiene Kits for Adult burn survivors 2021, this initiative has received positive feedback and the B.S.G hope for the same results. Burn Support Group would like to express their gratitude to LIFE PHARMACY BOTANY, ESSENCE LINGERIE, SNELL PACKAGING AND LION FIT, your support is greatly appreciated throughout this project. Resource kits will be made available to the invaluable staff working with burn patients from June 2022, and kits will be supplied to Kidz First, Waikato Hospital and Christchurch Burn Unit. For those that are interested in education and awareness surrounding safety in the home, the ACTIVITY BOOKS are available for download on this website - click here and then scroll to the bottom of the page. |

As a burns Survivor, we are often pushed to extreme limits in terms of both the physical pain of our burns to the internal trauma of the physical change that we soldier with when it comes to self love, self acceptance and the world around us.
Not everyone gets to transform as drastically as we do. So suddenly like a plunge and then after months, even years of struggle we transform into an even more beautiful person than before. So when it comes to something as daring as sky diving, its about not only reminding ourselves that we are warriors by taking such a leap. It's a giant, 20,000 feet leap, that symbolizes letting go of all those doubts that we once had or sometimes continue to have, with how we are judged, stared at or with what we've been through as survivors. This leap is a representation of our beautiful resilience as survivors, to show other survivors too, that life is more than possible even after you have survived burns or been through any other type of hell and our phenomenal resilience has proven it, time and again. That we are worthy as a survivor of extreme circumstances, even after all the storms we've endured and more. That more is this, you too can go onto creating your own highlights and sparkling moments just like this. |
The Burn Support Group is extremely pleased to announce a new and exciting project for 2022.
As we are all aware, the original camp for 2022 sadly had to be cancelled and will resume in 2023. This obviously was unfortunate news to share, however it is a pleasure to invite your children to the alternative initiative. Looking to the future, and understanding the value and benefits of Camp Awhi, it has now been planned to take place during the July school holidays. An exciting schedule has been designed for a “Wonderful Winter Camp”, the venue is Taylor Lodge, Ohakune. Please find information on the dates and what is required from you when completing the application form. It is vitally important to note the changes in the application form and complete where necessary. We are all aware of the difficulties this year has provided for many. We certainly hope next year will bring on a new normal which allows everyone to reconnect, enjoy the snow and have a great time! Keeping very transparent, the lovely hosts of this Lodge have advised they do not have restrictions on vaccination, for the requirement of the Charity it is vital you complete #8 on page 6 of the application form. It is also advised that there is a definite number that can attend this camp, to ensure your child secures a place, PLEASE do not delay in returning your application. Regrettably parents shall not be able to attend this event, the Charity is very grateful for the wonderful leaders and support volunteer team that do ensure foremost the safety of all children attendees. Thank you to all for your support, understanding and cooperation towards this amazing event. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Michele at the office.
