Well, the end of 2020 is just round the corner!
Sunday 13 December saw the last event to be held this year by the Burn Support Group. Fabulous to see all those that attend, the weather was on our side and the amazing support and contributions by many is truly appreciated. A big thank you to Charmaine from Fisher House, Highbrook. This was a stunning venue, incredibly helpful and we will be back due to the warm welcome. We must make special mention of: Bouncy Kiwi Castle Hire Ltd - pop corn, candy floss and the slide castle, a winner for the kids.. Angela Jorring and Tabatha Fawcett - fabulous face painters offering your time and talent... Tayla and Laura - candy floss, popcorn princesses... Sam Barnes - Home and Safety Networks Donna Marie Austin - providing terrific sounds, karaoke and tribute song ... With great raffles available, it was a pleasure to see so many winners on the day. Congratulations to Donna Gregory Marshall as she won the prestigious "A Splash of Colour", LION picture. . We certainly look forward to seeing everyone again in 2021, keep an eye out for dates to enter on your calendar. |

A warm welcome was given to Sam and Victoria Barnes, Home Safety Networks, Waikato at the Survivor Sunday event on 12 July 2020.
Sam gave a very impressive demonstration on the easily avoided hazards that can be found around the home which can lead to "fires" With an extensive knowledge on fire safety, smoke alarm detectors and the invaluable fire blanket, the group was presented and armed with a wealth of advice to follow in their own homes. Also giving opportunities to the burn community was the new owner of the Talent Tree Agency. Tracey-Maree spoke about the business and the available offers that she has provided for the B.S.G. To learn more, check the website under upcoming events. Thank you to both these organisations who offer monthly donations to the Burn Support Group contributing to enhancing burn survivors journeys. It was fabulous to see the many familiar faces and also meet new members, as our wonderful group numbers increase.. Special Mention to Aviva Raisin for supporting with the raffle donation and to Dixie Neil, a very happy winner of the raffle. Next Survivor Sunday is promoted for the 20 September 2020, and Burn Support Group look forward to seeing everyone there. Please take into account when you commit to this event catering costs are provided by the Burn Support Group confirmed numbers and attendance is greatly appreciated. |

Thank you to those that attended the first Survivor Sunday for the year.
Everyone was fortunate to hear from Belinda McKenzie, who shared her journey as a burn survivor, an inspiring, positive and encouraging story, on behalf of everyone - Thank you, Belinda. Thanks to Tracee McKenzie and Yolanda O'Reilly for the Sip n Paint exercise. Loads of fun creating amazing canvases and the creative juices were flowing - what an incredible outcome. On a beautiful day in a stunning venue, thanks to B.B.Y.C, burn survivors, family members and support persons meet and greet, a wonderful opportunity to share stories and journey's alike. These events, held four times a year, are provided as a safe haven and environment in which the burn community get the chance to make genuine connections with others, rediscover their own strengths, gain encouragement, inspiration and togetherness.. It is wonderful to see our familiar faces and welcome to the many newbies joining this valued event. Thank you to all those that participated. An extra pleasure was having Pete Sharp, (ex president) visit and catch up. |
