NORTH SHORE RIDING SCHOOL FOR THE DISABLED, a very generous donation to sponsor one of the lovely burn survivor children to camp was gifted to the BURN SUPPORT GROUP. Sponsoring a child to attend camp offers valued opportunities that will enhance and better the lives of these youngsters as they start a new school year.

DAVE BLUNDERLL and JOHN IRWIN, two very generous and kind gentlemen that rode their Harley Davidson's from Auckland to Nelson so they could give each child a ride during the camp. Dave worked with the camp schedule in advance so that no one would miss out, time was generous and this activity was extremely well received.. Paul Ewing from the Nelson Harley chapter joined in, highlight of the camp for 2020.
None of this would have been possible without the valued support provided by Southern Stars and PSL Fire and Safety.
To all those gorgeous children that joined us this year, the largest group to date, thank you for your participation, stamina, encouragement and warm welcoming smiling faces. It is excellent to see the familiar friendly faces that return support and embrace all the newbies. For a first we introduced the GRANT A WISH scheme, our first and very lucky winner recipient is SUZY COOPER from Taranaki, Suzy will be horse riding in the near future.
2020 Trophy winners this year: Congratulations to SUZANNE LEE (leader) and TAYLA HENRY (support volunteer) with their team: RILEY-MAY, ZARA, HARMONY, JAYDE, JORVANA, BRAYDEN, MANUKURA, TAYLA, JACK and ANNA - well done and well deserved! We arrived at the airport all ready to go
Bags all packed and faces aglow Hopped on to our plane which was Napier bound Strapped into our seats - no clowning around! At the water balloon war, we got very wet Just one of the activities we wouldn’t forget! Brayden opened our traditional, circle of sharing - The Talking Stick . . . . showing how much we were caring The white water rafting was EVER so thrilling And the Rapid Relief lunch was deliciously filling Paint ball, archery and horses to ride No wonder our smiles were ever so wide! Riding the horses was fun for those in the saddle For those not into swimming, there was always a paddle Shooting with rifles, and pistols too Soooo many activities - such fun stuff to do! While the older ones tented, sleeping out until dawn The others saw a movie - eating bags of pop-corn More activities on Sunday - Laser Force was such fun Shooting each other . . . . with colour’d beams from a gun A waterfront bike ride was, EVER so great Then it was on to the Fire Station - we tried not to be late It was there that the firefighters showed us their engines red Then it was on to McDonalds - where lunch we were fed Splash Planet was AMAZING - what fun we had there . . . Floating on The Lazy River, with not so much as a care! Water fountains and pools and very high rides Not to mention the squirters and the wild, wet rides In town we went to the Breakers for dinner They sure spoiled us - as it was a real winner! Then it was under the cliffs and over the rocks To Cape Kidnappers in tractors - really feeling the knocks! The gannets are such a beautiful bird But to see them first, our loins we did gird We saw them after climbing, a really steep hill President Pete showing us how, with his Ironman skill Grace and Jayde proved a truly talented pair For the disco that night, plaiting all the girl's hair Shannon and Vicki and Priar and Brooke Camp Mums helping kids, and cleaning each nook The TV Attitude programme, sent us a crew They were filming Josh and . . . . maybe some of us too - We’ll keep you posted when it shows on TV So you can watch the show, with your whole family No promises here that you’ll be a star But what the heck anyway, to us you sure are! A country Hoe Down was next on our list An end of camp party is NOT to be missed! With various items we entertained all the rest The show was just great - you ALL were the best! Going home tomorrow, so it’s goodbye to each friend It’s moments like these, we just wish wouldn’t end . . . . But next year will come, and we’ll see all of you then And marvel once more how good it’s all been We owe much to Michele carefully planning it all She’s done simply everything - and made it a ball! She made up the schedule and sussed out the ven-ue (She worked so hard all year, to raise the dosh too!) As you go home - recall the fun you have had Perhaps getting burned wasn’t really so bad???!!! People will still stare, now you understand why - They’re just puzzled you look different - so just say “Hi” “I know I look different - Shall I tell you why?” When you tell them your story, you’ll soon have a new friend You'll inspire them so much that their hand they’ll extend Of your scars you must feel proud, as proud as can be Because to us, you’re ALL heroes - and ALWAYS will be To us you’re so special and we are all soooo much in awe You have suffered soooo much - but how we love seeing you soar! Special mention goes to the Napier, Hastings, Gisborne and Waipawa Lions Club for their outstanding support and patience with fundraising efforts to provide the Children's Burn Camp with the necessary vans to transport throughout the city. This makes an incredible difference to the format of Camp, our sincere appreciation in your efforts.
Thank you to the Rapid Relief Team, Napier, for your generous participation; sharing your time and service at the Camp for those attending. Lunch was outstanding and very welcome, as are the wonderful team of people who dedicated their time and support volunteering for this invaluable cause. Thank you for considering the Burn Support Children's Camp as recipients of your great work
Sponsored for Camp
This year 2019, the very generous Karl and Jan Brannigan approached the Charity and very generously SPONSORED one of our very fortunate children to attend Camp. The lucky young lady was Te Arna Teokotai from Christchurch. Te Arna has shared her story previously in the That's Life magazine, a young inspiring courageous girl, always with a willingness to participate in every activity.
We would like to express our huge appreciation to the Brannigans for there kindness. Karl is a burn survivor and having attended Camp in 2018 it has been an on going wonderful relationship. To Karl and Jan we wish you all the very best for 2019 and please don't be strangers within our burn family.
Visit our media or inspirational stories pages to read about Te Arna and Karl's journeys. Look out for 2020 camp details coming soon. Click on image to read article

All of us adults (like you), wait for camp all the year
Because to all of us, YOU, have each become dear We all can’t believe how the year has just flown - And we just cannot believe, how much you’ve all grown! Mi Camp is where it’s at, this time of the year With kayaks, Top Town, and heaps of fun gear There was BMX, swimming and a great barbeque too - A lake cruise and fishing - and an air brushed tattoo! Yoga for adults, goodie bags for each kid Bug spray for the mozzies - (from which we tried to get rid!) Swimming was popular - as was the slide Turangi firemen gave all a REALLY good ride! Andrew and Karl, their burn stories did tell - Inspiring each one of us - to really excel 6D cinema, and mini golf - cool memories to make . . . and posing a great photograph, in front of the lake Dinner at Cobb and Co was, SIMPLY great - Spectacular cocktails - as we each cleaned our plate De Bretts Hotel spoiled us really, - quite a lot With a great barbeque and pools beautifully hot! Quad bikes for the older ones proved - quite a hit Then the talent show featured us, all doing our bit Keep in touch with a text message, and Facebook too - Because the good friends we make here will ALWAYS be true Showing your scars is not always easy to do - Just know that we’re all here, to help support you . . . . We’ll NEVER stop people taking the time to stare But whatever you do - you must NEVER despair! Be proud - STAND TALL! You came through it all - An amazingly brave hero - YOU, truly are And to us you’ll always be, - OUR BIG SHINING STAR! Delwyn Breslau 22 January 2018 |

To the guys and girls at Turangi Fire Station, I can't thank you enough and express our gratitude for the time you spent with us at Camp...the kids had a blast and you joining in was awesome, thank you for your over and above amazing support .... how's the bumps and bruises???
Thanks Tangonui - aka Tom Members of Turangi Fire Brigade had the great pleasure of spending two afternoons with some amazing people. The Burn Support Group Charitable Trust, Inc. held their National Camp for New Zealand Burn Survivors at Mi Camp, near Turangi. The purpose of this camp is to encourage physical and social activities to develop self worth and confidence amongst children aged 7-17 who have suffered a burn injury. It is an opportunity for children to have fun, learn life skills, meet other burn survivors and share their stories. The brigade helped by providing man power, water and bubble bath for the camps water slide for the kids to have some fun. |

January 24th 2013 we were off on the bus and ready for our adventure at Lakewood Lodge in Huntly.
It was so good seeing everyone again and having some new faces to welcome into our little family. We arrived early morning and got straight into activities after morning tea. Activities included Horse Games, Kayaking, 11m Climbing Wall, Archery, 130m Twin Flying Foxes, Low Ropes Challenge, Frisbee Golf plus and much more. The children were amazing with all the activities, giving everything a go and seeing their little faces light up when they had achieved something is what this camp is all about. On Saturday we had our board members arrive for the day, it was so nice for everyone to get to meet each other and see what camp is all about. The parents who were on camp with us got to experience an adult support group and the children had a separate one run by our Patrons, Alan and Delwyn Breslau. Delwyn is the founder of the Burn Support Charitable Trust Inc and married to Alan who is the founder of the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors. Monday came around very fast and it was time to pack up and go home. I can’t wait to see all our little children a year older and most probably taller than me. Until next year ….
