The Alan and Delwyn Breslau Scholarship Fund was established by Dr Julian Lofts, plastic and reconstructive surgeon, in conjunction with Burn Support Group founder Delwyn Breslau shortly after Alan’s death. The aim of the Scholarship Fund is to honour the memory of Alan Breslau and to support the education of burn survivors and people working in the various fields of burns management in New Zealand. Dr Lofts had benefited greatly from the Burn Support Group generously raising a large amount of money to buy a controlled rate freezer for the preservation of skin grafts when he was doing research at the Auckland Medical School in the early 1990s. He wanted to give back to the Burn Support Group and the burns community after nearly 30 years working in his Auckland plastic surgery practice. He has also become a member of the BSG Board. The inaugural scholarship for 2024 has been awarded to Dr Martha Druery PhD, who is a highly respected Burns Psychotherapist and Researcher at the Lumos Trauma Institute in Brisbane. Martha will travel to Auckland as an invited speaker at the ANZBA meeting in October and she has graciously agreed to be the guest speaker for our Burn Survivor Sunday on the 27th October 2024.
