Taranaki Daily News'Look while you Cook' urge Volunteer Firefighters
FIREFIGHTERS are stressing the "need to keep looking while you're cooking" message after a man's legs were badly burned when a pot of cooking oil caught fire.
The Hawera Volunteer Fire Brigade was called to an Ohangai Rd address just before 8pm on Tuesday.
Fire chief Darryl Fowler said the man, in his 30s, had turned on a pot of oil and gone to watch television but later smelt burning.
"He's tried to pick the pot up and remove it but something's happened, he's either slipped or tripped and spilt the oil," Mr Fowler said.
The man's legs received serious burns from the hot oil and he was taken to Hawera Hospital by TDHB ambulance.
